Naloxone Administration Changes
The Alberta MFR Program has begun work to include administration of Naloxone by registered Primary Care Paramedics (PCP) that are members of Medical First Response agencies who are operating at the PCP level of service. An online training module has been provided and we are in the process of making it available on the training area of this website. Further information and an updated Medical Control Protocol will be posted when ready.
Registered Emergency Medical Responders (EMR) are also included in the Ministerial Order. However; the Alberta MFR Program is awaiting further information from the Alberta College of Paramedics and Alberta Health Services and at this time EMRs are not yet permitted to administer Naloxone. Please visit the information link(s) below and contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any immediate questions.
For useful information about Fentanyl and Take-Home Naloxone Kits, the "Non-Pharmaceutical Fentanyl" training module is also available after logging in to the training area.
