Health Professions Act (HPA) announced for EMS
On September 15th the Alberta Government announced governance of the Paramedic Profession has transferred from the Health Disciplines Act to the Health Professions Act (HPA). This change will impact all EMS practitioners in Alberta as well as fire departments and other organizations utilizing EMR, EMT and EMT-P responders registered with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP). The full extent of these changes will be better understood as more information is released. The Alberta MFR Program will share this information with partner agencies as it becomes available. A link to the information release is below (including a link to the HPA itself) along with a link to the College's HPA transition page.

AHS remains responsible for patient care in Alberta and will work with the Alberta College of Paramedics, Alberta Health and other stakeholders to understand the next steps. We appreciate your patience as the initial information is distributed and we begin to appreciate the longer term changes that may be needed to comply with the new legislation.
