MFR team at the Peace River Northern HEAT Fire Conference
The MFR team was pleased to be in Peace River September 13 and 14 to attend the Northern HEAT Fire Conference, which offers firefighters an opportunity for live fire training, workshops and networking.
“We had the opportunity to directly engage with nearly 40 MFR agencies. Face-to-face time like that is invaluable, and we always end up learning from our partners,” said Blaine Barody, MFR program manager.
The trade show portion of the conference allowed mingling between agencies, suppliers and stakeholders such as the MFR team.
“It was great to see the attendance and the engagement of those who came to the Northern Heat Conference, it was a great experience to be part of it. I was raised in the area, my children were born and raised around Peace River - the north is a great place to live,” said Nicole Rasmussen, MFR dispatch liaison. “I have worked in emergency services for 17 years based out of the Northern Communications Centre (NCC). I am now with the MFR Team, and it is overwhelming to see the number of people willing to go out every day to help and support the members of our community.”
The MFR booth drew one lucky contestant who won a fully stocked trauma bag, which firefighter Rachid Hamdouny was happy to accept for Peace River Fire Department. An MFR trivia game was also on hand for first responders to test their medical knowledge and earn additional ballots.
“The trivia game was fun, but it was just really great to meet people and put faces to the names we have worked with from afar. As a team, we were able to look up MFR response plans on the spot to make adjustments as needed. Events like this are wonderful for highlighting that we’re all on the same team, working toward the same common goal – excellent patient care for all Albertans,” said Sheri Monk, MFR strategist.
The Alberta Fire Training Conference will be held October 17-19 in Lethbridge, and the MFR team will be present at the trade show portion of the event. We hope to see many of you there!
