Naloxone training

The Ministerial Order specifies responders must complete naloxone training required by their agency prior to administering it to a patient.  To support this requirement, a provincial naloxone training module has been developed in cooperation with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services that is applicable to all MFRs (Standard First Aid and higher) and covers both the IM and IN methods of administration.  The training module and associated resources are available to MFR Agencies and their responders at no charge through the MFR Portal.

For practitioners regulated by the Health Professions Act (i.e. EMR and PCP) the training module provided by the MFR Program is recognized by the Alberta College of Paramedics to satisfy educational requirements.   MFR Agencies may choose to develop their own training or use training from other sources at their own expense.

The naloxone training module is hosted here on the Alberta MFR portal.  To access the online training area you must be a member of an agency enrolled with the Alberta MFR Program and you must be logged in to your profile.  If you do not have log in credentials please speak to your dept. officers to have your individual profile created.  The full course can also be made available to an agency that wishes to deliver the training completely in person.  You may also contact for assistance.
